Tottenham pushing for £16m striker with deal even possible after deadline

Tottenham have identified Bournemouth’s Josh King as a strike target, according to reports – and their pursuit could go on beyond the October 5th transfer deadline.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign cover for Harry Kane, having revealed his confidence that Spurs will sign another centre-forward.

They have brought Gareth Bale back from Real Madrid on loan to bolster the ranks. But Mourinho remains on the lookout for a target man to play backup to Kane.

According to the Telegraph, one player they are considering is King. Bournemouth will let the Norwegian return to the Premier League after they suffered relegation, if the right offer comes in.

They have already allowed Nathan Ake and Callum Wilson to move to Manchester City and Newcastle respectively. Ryan Fraser also sealed a return to the top flight after his contract expired.

Now, King could follow the trio back into the Premier League. Spurs admire him for his versatility, but most of all his comfort in a central attackinhg role.

Tottenham have until October 16th to do deal

One advantage for King over other targets is that Premier League and EFL clubs can do business with each other for 11 days after October 5th, which is the deadline for all other transfers.

Therefore, Tottenham are likely to continue their pursuit of King after the transfer window closes for teams abroad.

In a further boost for Spurs, King is in the last year of his contract at Bournemouth. Therefore, it could be easier for them to sign the 28-year-old for a reasonable price.

King had been a target for Aston Villa earlier in the window, before they signed Ollie Watkins from Brentford. A price tag of around £16m was mentioned at the time.

The Telegraph does not mention any other suitors for King at this moment in time, potentially giving Spurs a free run at the striker who had been dreaming of Manchester United.

“What if United are still interested?” he pondered earlier this month. “That would be amazing. I was at United for five years and I learned lot there.”
