Ivan Rakitic would be open to a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Rakitic could be one of the victims of Barcelona’s summer shakeup. The La Liga giants are planning an overhaul after their Champions League disaster.
Tottenham have emerged as one of the leading contenders for Rakitic if he leaves Barcelona. Jose Mourinho is fond of the player and would like him to bolster their midfield.
Recent reports hinted that Spurs were struggling to meet Barca’s price tag for Rakitic – who is also attracting interest from his former club Sevilla.
However, Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) now suggest that the Croatian would be open to joining Spurs. That’s because he has been “discarded” by new Barca manager Ronald Koeman.
The Catalan outlet does warn Spurs that Rakitic’s favoured option is to return to Sevilla, though. However, if he is unable to do so, he would be willing to move to Tottenham.
Barcelona are holding out for a fee of €10m for the midfielder, who was a member of the Croatia team that reached the 2018 World Cup final.
Rakitic has one year left on his contract, but neither Spurs nor Sevilla can match his salary demands. Therefore, whichever club does sign him will have to meet him in the middle.
Reports elsewhere have also mentioned Arsenal as potential suitors . However, Mundo Deportivo‘s report does not refer to them.
