Tottenham star insists contract situation is not behind poor form

Christian Eriksen TEAMtalk

Christian Eriksen is certain that his contract situation at Tottenham is not behind his struggle to find top form this season.

The Denmark star’s contract at Spurs expires next summer and there have been endless rumours about where he could eventually end up.

And his reluctance to pen a new deal at the club has seen Mauricio Pochettino hand the playmaker only eight starts in all competitions this season, while Spurs have also been looking for replacements for the Dane.

Eriksen is currently away with the national team for the last international break of this year and spoke to the local media on Monday.

Responding to questions about his poor form, the 27-year-old said: “I feel 100 percent that Tottenham has complete confidence in me. There is not that big a difference, except that I play a little less this year.

“I don’t feel there is a connection between my contract situation and the fact that I haven’t played as many matches.”

Eriksen admitted his desire for a new challenge after Spurs lost the Champions League final to Liverpool back in January, but he was unable to seal a move to desired destination Real Madrid.

He has since struggled to replicate anything like his best form, but added: “I might take a little more chance than certain other positions on the pitch. Of course, there are mistakes, and the decisions taken must also be carried out correctly. There may have been a little bit missing.

“I’ve been in the right situations. I just haven’t taken the right decisions. It’s a bit about the sharpness that is missing. This is something I have to work on myself.”
