Tottenham’s players have reportedly been left “stunned” after Jose Mourinho did not name Dele Alli in his squad for Sunday’s clash with Southampton.

Alli was one of eight players left out of Thursday’s Europa League tie in Bulgaria, which Spurs edged 2-1.

However, the England international did not get a place in Sunday’s squad to face the Saints.

According to The Telegraph, Mourinho’s decision has caused “major surprise” within the Tottenham dressing room.

What’s more, England international Alli feels “upset” and “confused” by the latest snub.

Tottenham’s players, meanwhile, also feel “concerned” he will suffer from a continued lack of game time if he remains at the club.

Reports linked Alli with a move to Real Madrid earlier this week, as part of the deal to bring Gareth Bale to Spurs.

Since then, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have reportedly registered interest in the 24-year-old.

Alli started Tottenham‘s Premier League opener against Everton last weekend. However, Mourinho took him off at half-time and he has not featured since.

Mourinho: Alli snub not down to fitness

Pressed by BT Sport ahead of Sunday’s game on the decision not to include Alli, Mourinho insisted it was down to the size of his squad.

Asked if it was to do with fitness, he said: “No, we have a huge squad, a squad with numbers that are very difficult to manage.

“I never had it, I don’t like to have it and it’s not easy for me to be here with 18 players and to have 10 training in the training ground.

“Too many players, so I start with Son (Heung-min), Lucas (Moura), with Harry (Kane) and on the bench I still have Moussa Sissoko and [Erik] Lamela and [Steven] Bergwijn.

“We have too many players for some positions and some of them are paying the price of this.”

Tottenham linked with Jesse Lingard

Alli’s latest snub comes amid reports Mourinho wants to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United.

Alli’s fellow England international has lost his way at Old Trafford, having not started a Premier League game since January.

Indeed, the arrivals of Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek are likely to further restrict his chances.

Now, reports claim Lingard, while reluctant to leave his boyhood club, could look to resurrect his career elsewhere.
