Tottenham ‘in talks’ for France defender as Nuno starts to work his magic

Tottenham have now opened talks with in-demand £50m-rated Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, according to a reliable transfer expert.

Nuno Espirito Santo is now in the north London hot seat and is targeting the centre back as his first signing. It may well be that the Portuguese tactician tries to lure more than one centre-half to the club in the off-season. That is because both Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez are vulnerable to summer exits.

But France international Kounde is his immediate concern and it appears as though things may be progressing. It will be a real coup for Nuno if he does land the Frenchman, with many clubs linked to the stopper.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been mentioned in connection with the 22-year-old. And it emerged earlier this week that Spanish giants Real Madrid had entered the picture.

Thursday’s edition of Sport, (via Sport Witness) suggested Los Blancos wanted to include Isco in the deal. They cannot afford to pay Kounde’s €80m exit clause but it appears as though Spurs may now be at the front of the queue.

That is according to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, who states that Tottenham have now ‘opened talks’ to sign Kounde.

Kounde expects to leave Sevilla

Kounde, has been superb for Julen Lopetegui’s side over two seasons, making 88 appearances in all competitions. But, back in May he made it clear where his future lies.

“Regarding my future, it is certain that I will perhaps have to change clubs this summer,” he said: “But nothing has been finalised yet, I have not decided anything.”

He may still be undecided but it is good news for Spurs fans that dialogue has begun over the proposed move. The Athletic have reported that Los Nervionenses will demand a fee in the region of £50m.

Romano suggests that Tottenham Hotspur Stadium chiefs have spoken to his representatives over a summer switch.

The Italian said on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast (as relayed by TBR Football): “Kounde could be an opportunity. Also for Manchester United are in the list.

“Tottenham are considering a move, they are in contact with his agents. For sure Tottenham will do something in defence, right-back and centre-back. In the next weeks.”

It is not known if Spurs are willing to pay the price quoted or will look to reduce it or use a player as a makeweight.
