Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: In reported talks with Man City

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed he turned down a move to Tottenham under Harry Redknapp because things got “a bit weird”.

The 26-year-old striker, who scored in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Spurs on Thursday night, claimed he could have moved to White Hart Lane in 2012.

Aubameyang admitted holding talks with Tottenham while he was with French side St Etienne, but instead decided to stay put before joining Dortmund in the summer of 2013.

Aubameyang said: “In the end everything became a bit weird, I didn’t really like the way things were done.

“If Spurs ever came back in me for me, I’d say no.”

The Gabon frontman, who was named African Player of the Year for 2015, was in fine form in the Europa League as he helped Dortmund destroy Tottenham and has now scored 30 goals in 34 appearances this season, but his German club this week issued a hands-off warning on their star man.

Dortmund’s chief executive Hans Joachim Watzke said: “The position is clear. Auba plays for Borussia Dortmund and the next years he will play at Borussia Dortmund.

“It is no question. There is no get-out clause.”

Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea have all been rumoured to be interested in the £60million man.
