Tottenham are exploring the possibility of signing Palmeiras wonderkid Gabriel Menino, according to reports.
Menino has emerged from the Palmeiras academy to become an important first-team player. He made his senior debut in January 2020 and has now played 59 times for the club.
Able to play as a central midfielder or a right-back, he has recorded four goals and seven assists in the formative months of his career. He started the final of the Copa Libertadores in January, which Palmeiras won.
Menino also came on as a substitute in both legs of the Copa Do Brasil final in March, which Palmeiras also came out of with a trophy.
Now, the Brazilian youngster could have an opportunity to move to Europe. According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are monitoring the 20-year-old.
Spurs have shifted their transfer focus to South America in the wake of work permit rules arising from Brexit. Menino is one of the players who has emerged onto their radar.
Reports earlier this month suggested that Chelsea and Atletico Madrid were also monitoring Menino. Now, Tottenham have joined the chasing pack.
Spurs are still looking for their ideal midfield combination. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has impressed since his summer arrival from Southampton, but Jose Mourinho is yet to find the right mix alongside him.
Menino could help with that solution, while offering another option at right-back. There are currently doubts over the future of Matt Doherty and Serge Aurier in that position.
It is not yet clear whether they would offer Menino a first-team role immediately, or look to integrate him into their under-23 setup. However, they clearly believe he has potential.
Therefore, they are mulling over their options and could eventually try to sign him.
Tottenham summer signing considers exit
Meanwhile, there are doubts over the future of a player Spurs only brought in last summer.
According to El Gol Digital, Sergio Reguilon wants to quit Spurs after just one season and head back to LaLiga.
The Spain international has been one of Mourinho’s better performers in an inconsistent season for Tottenham.
Real Madrid have a buy-back option on the 24-year-old that is active until the summer of 2022, while some reports are suggesting that the LaLiga giants could activate it this summer.
However, El Gol Digital now states that Reguilon is more likely to head to Sevilla, where he excelled on loan last season.
The report claims that last season’s Europa League winners will try and sign the Spurs man. However, that is only if they miss out of Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso first.
