Tottenham tipped to complete bargain Chelsea raid for underused star who’ll help Kane outscore Haaland
A Chelsea forward has been urged to snub a European giant in favour of taking Tottenham up on their interest, and the move could make Harry Kane even more deadly, per reports.
Erling Haaland is blazing a trail through Premier League defences this season. The Norwegian hitman has fired an incredible 32 goals in just 28 appearances. As such, going under the radar is the superb season Harry Kane is delivering.
Indeed, the 29-year-old has notched 23 goals thus far. That is a figure that would have seen Kane equal or surpass the mark set by the league’s top scorer in each of the last four seasons. With seven games remaining, Kane will fancy his chances of finishing near the 30-goal mark.
What makes Kane’s exploits all the more impressive is his Spurs side has largely been devoid of creativity all year.
Indeed, Tottenham’s midfield lacks a natural playmaker, while both Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski have endured poor seasons.
For example, Kulusevski bagged 13 goal contributions in just five months last term. This time around, the Swede is labouring on just eight goal contributions from five extra games.
Tottenham’s primary aim this summer – after appointing a new permanent manager – is to tie Harry Kane down to a long-term deal. His current contract expires in the summer of 2024 and Man Utd are circling.
But beyond that, additions could come at centre-half and central midfield. Elsewhere, French outlet Jeunes Footeux reported earlier in April that Spurs were sizing up a shock move for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech.
The Morrocan, 30, has largely failed to live up to expectations since ditching Ajax for the Blues back in 2020. He’s rarely been a regular under varying Chelsea managers and was on the chopping block in January.
A move to PSG infamously fell through after Chelsea repeatedly filed the wrong paperwork. Ziyech was reportedly left fuming at the blunder, though will get his exit wish six months on.
PSG are believed to be prepared to reignite their interest, though per Jeunes Footeux, Spurs could hijack the deal.
While Ziyech hasn’t enjoyed the best of times in west London, he still remains a creative force to be reckoned with when in his groove.
Indeed, Ziyech operated at roughly an assist every other game during a glittering spell with Ajax. He’d also have a point to prove if moving across London and now knows what the Premier League is all about.
The trusted Gianluca Di Marzio claimed Chelsea had set a modest asking price of around £17.5m for Ziyech in January. That would be a small price to pay for a player who could provide Kane with the bullets to compete with Haaland in the scoring charts.
Ziyech urged to take Tottenham leap
Now, speaking to Football Insider, pundit Frank McAvennie has urged Ziyech to ignore PSG and instead take up Tottenham on their interest.
Explaining why, McAvennie pointed to the simple fact Ziyech will stand a far greater chance of featuring regularly at Spurs.
Of course, that would rely on Kulusevski being dropped, though the Swede’s struggles this term have been there for all to see.
“PSG is a wonderful club, they are super rich and France is a wonderful place but so is London,” said McAvennie.
“I think when players come from abroad they want to stay in London. Even the boys from London want to stay there.
“PSG is great but is he going to get in the team? There is only so many sightseeing trips you can do, you want to play.
“If he thinks he can go and fight for a place at PSG then he should go there.
“It is a better prospect than Tottenham but he probably has more chance of being a regular at Tottenham. So he has got to weigh it up.“
