Tottenham tipped to step up move for commanding centre-back

Ben Godfrey TEAMtalk

Tottenham are reportedly ready to step up their bid to sign an impressive Premier League centre-back this summer.

With continuing doubts over the long-term futures of experienced duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in north London, Spurs are expected to be in the market for a new central defender next summer.

However, a move could come sooner if the latest reports are to be believed.

HITC claims that Mauricio Pochettino has stepped up his interest in landing highly-rated Norwich City star Ben Godfrey, who was also linked with Liverpool and Manchester United over the summer.

The 21-year-old has had a superb start to the Premier League season with the newly-promoted Norwich and was handed the captain’s armband as England Under-21s beat Kosovo on Monday night.

However, Spurs are likely to have to pay a premium for the Canaries star, given that he only recently signed a new deal at Carrow Road.
