Tottenham to open talks over free transfer move for Liverpool target

Tottenham are being tipped to make a potential free transfer move for Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha next summer.

Spurs became the only club in the Premier League era not to make a single signing during a summer window as potential moves for a number of top targets failed to materialise.

The cost of funding the club’s new stadium is also believed to have played a role in the north London outfit not spending a penny, despite chairman Daniel Levy admitting that Mauricio Pochettino’s transfer funds would not be affected.

However, news of trying to bring in players for nothing is sure to alarm the Spurs faithful, even if there is still quality to be had in the free transfer market.

One such player is Albanian stopper Strakosha, who is out of contract next summer and is available to sign a pre-contract at the turn of the year.

The goalkeeper was linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer prior to their capture of Alisson Becker, and he is believed to still be a target for Jurgen Klopp amid doubts over the future of No 2 Simon Mignolet.

Spurs seem certain to be in the market for a new stopper at the end of the season, with regular back-up Michel Vorm soon to be out of contract himself while Paulo Gazzaniga has impressed as a replacement for Hugo Lloris this season and may look for a No. 1 job elsewhere.

Lloris himself has had a troubled start to the new campaign – having been charged with drink-driving – despite having a summer to remember after lifting the World Cup with France.

The 31-year-old star has shown signs over the last year or so that he is not perhaps the force he once was, with high-profile errors costings Spurs in big games.

That has led to speculation that Pochettino may have already begun the search for his successor – and Strakosha could be that man, according to HITC.

The 23-year-old has been outstanding since joining Lazio from Panionios in 2012 and has emerged as one of Serie A’s top stoppers.

The report goes on to state that Strakosha could initially become Lloris’ deputy before eventually taking over as first choice, if he continues to develop at the rate in which he has since arriving in Italy.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are the latest club to be linked with what would be a stunning free transfer move for Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey. Read the full story here…
