Tottenham have sent scouts to Portugal to check on Holland winger Steven Bergwijn tomorrow night ahead of a reported €40million swoop.
The PSV star is believed to have been on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar ever since he impressed the Argentinian in Champions League action against Spurs in November.
Voetbal International last month claimed that the Eredivisie giants were expecting imminent contact with Pochettino’s men, who have been monitoring Bergwijn’s progress.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed a superb season in Holland, scoring 15 goals and adding 13 assists in 41 appearances in all competitions, and Spurs scouts will watch him in action against England in the Nations League semi-final in Guimares on Thursday night.
Rik Elfrink a journalist who covers PSV for Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad says ‘Spurs are following him’ and told Sky Sports: “They have talked to his agent and it has been said that there has already been an offer of €40million. PSV deny that, but a transfer is probably not far off.
“Bergwijn is an incredible talent but he still has a lot of potential to improve, especially in front of goal because sometimes he still loses his nerve.”
Manchester United and Liverpool are also reportedly interested in Bergwijn, whose agent Fulco van Kooperen this week confirmed interest from Inter Milan.
“Bergwijn at Inter or in Italy? That’s what I hope,” van Kooperen told Calciomercato.
“The market has just begun , its arrival in Italy may occur but at the moment there is still nothing concrete.”
