Mourinho unequivocal when asked about Harry Winks transfer

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has rubbished the latest round of speculation surrounding Harry Winks.

Winks, who has been to speak to Mourinho about his game time, was on Monday linked with a loan move to Valencia.

Spanish outlet AS  reported that Valencia wanted the England midfielder on a permanent deal.

Valencia boss Javi Gracia will be backed by new recruits this month: “I trust reinforcements will arrive.”

But the LaLiga side are apparently trying to strengthen on the cheap.

The report claimed Valencia have been working for weeks on a transfer for Winks. There has been an exchange of emails between the clubs and Tottenham are open to the deal.

That however was put to Mourinho on Tuesday and he was unequivocal in his response.

“What do I have to say to stop with this talk? I said already that he’s going nowhere,” he said. “When I say he’s going nowhere, what more do you want me to say?

“He played the last matches. He didn’t play the last one because it was a chance to let players like Gedson (Fernandes) get minutes.

“Tomorrow he’s selected again. If someone’s talking to other clubs I’d say don’t waste your time.”

Winks 24, has been afforded game time of late due to the injury to Giovani Lo Celso. Winks has started the last two Premier League games with the Argentinian, who broke Covid-19 protocols, sidelined.

Mourinho, speaking before Christmas, was adamant that Winks would not leave on loan.

“In relation to Winks (leaving) on loan in January, no way,” Mourinho said.

“You know,” he said. “Yes he came to me. He came to me, not just him. Many players come to me.

“I have my office on the first floor but I also have a little space on the ground floor next to the players’ dressing room where I used to be before and after training session to make it easy for them.

“So it is easy for them to come around the corner to speak to me, so yes, Winks came to speak to me.”

Mourinho happy with Fulham date

Meanwhile, Mourinho says the Premier League’s solution to rearrange their game with Fulham on Wednesday is a “positive” one.

Spurs were due to play Aston Villa but that game was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak at the midlands club and their match with the Cottagers, postponed on December 30, was hastily slotted in.

“The biggest impact is to have matches postponed, that is the biggest impact,” Mourinho said.

“The changing of the order of the matches, the impact is minimal because in the end you have to play 19 matches at home and away, you have to play two matches against every team.

“If it is to help the Premier League to go and end properly, I think it is a solution we all have to accept as a positive.”

Fulham were understood to have their concerns about rearranging the game at such short notice, with their game at Chelsea also moved, while their fans have not taken the news well.

The original game was called off at less than three hours notice.

Asked whether Fulham had a right to be upset, he replied: “Are you serious? I had the news I was not going to play them two hours before the game started.”
