Tottenham’s €25m-plus striker target lays out La Liga intentions

Giovanni Simeone TEAMtalk

Tottenham target Giovanni Simeone says he wants to play for his father Diego at Atletico Madrid.

Simone, 23, who has been linked with Spurs, hit 13 goals before being transferred to Fiorentina in August 2017 for around €18million, penning a five year contract.  And he scored 15 goals in 41 games last season as he continued to improve in the Italian top flight.

Fiorentina are reportedly working on extending the contract of Simeone.

Calciomercato reported last month that the Serie A outfit have already opened discussions with the Argentine striker, whose current deal runs until 2022, and who was the reported subject of a rejected €25m bid from Marseille in the summer.

“Playing for Atletico would be amazing,” he told Fox Sports Argentina.

“I never had the chance to be coached by my father. My old man has never asked me about the possibility.

“Him becoming Argentina CT? He always says that it’s not the right time, but as a player I’d like to see him coach the national team.

“I think every Argentine would like him because he’s a great coach.”

“He has everything but I will never sign him,” Simeone told Cadena Cope.
