Tranmere v Oxford Utd preview

Rob Taylor is a doubt for bottom-of-the-table Tranmere against Oxford at Prenton Park.

The midfielder came off with a hamstring problem in the 1-0 loss to Mansfield on Tuesday which sent Rovers to the basement and Taylor will likely struggle to make the visit of Michael Appleton’s squad.

However, other than long-term absentee Marcus Holness (knee), manager Micky Adams reported a clean bill of health elsewhere as his side strive to avoid back-to-back relegations.

Matt Hill (Achilles), Jason Koumas (hamstring) and Iain Hume (illness) were all back on the bench in midweek and Adams could call upon their experience in another pivotal fixture for his struggling outfit.

Oxford will asses their three injured players ahead of the long trip north.

Patrick Hoban’s dead leg and knocks sustained by Andy Whing and George Baldock kept the trio out of the midweek draw with Northampton and boss Appleton will hope they can all return to his squad.

Alex MacDonald stepped off the bench to net the equaliser at the Kassam and could have done enough to earn a recall to face Rovers.

Danny Rose and James Roberts could also be in line for recalls as the U’s look to avoid drawing their fourth match in succession.
