Arsenal are nearing the signing of a top Spanish midfielder, Liverpool are firmly in the race to sign a Barcelona star, while Monday’s Transfer Gossip claims one of Chelsea’s big-money summer signings is closing on a move away from Stamford Bridge.

EDU TO GET HIS MAN WITH ARSENAL SET TO SIGN GABRI VEIGA

Arsenal are reportedly close to winning the transfer race to sign Gabri Veiga with Celta Vigo certain to accept an offer from the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s side are putting all their focus into Wednesday’s monumental classh at Emirates Stadium in a match that will have a big say on the destiny of the Premier League title.

But off the field, sporting director Edu is putting plans in place for the summer window and a return to the Champions League. And despite signing Jorginho in January, the club are in the hunt for more midfield talent.

Indeed, Moises Caicedo is still reportedly on their wanted list after seeing a January bid rebuffed. And he could be joined at Emirates Stadium by another top young talent in Veiga.

The Celta Vigo star is enjoying an excellent season in La Liga with nine goals and four assists from 28 appearances.

However, the Spanish press believes it is inevitable that he will be sold this summer – and it seems a huge offer from Arsenal is likely to win the day.

And AS believe a £35m (€40m) offer will be enough to secure the signing for Arsenal. The Spanish publication also claims they will be delighted to accept such an offer too, with Arsenal clearly streaking ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City in the race to sign him.

The 20-year-old is seen as one of La Liga’s brightest prospects, having played 46 times for Celta, scoring nine goals.

LIVERPOOL ENTER RACE TO SIGN FRENKIE DE JONG

Liverpool will reportedly enter the race to sign Frenkie de Jong amid a growing feeling that Barcelona are ready to sell.

The Dutch midfielder was the subject of a lengthy chase from Manchester United last summer. However, despite the Red Devils agreeing a fee with Barcelona, De Jong dug his heels in and got his wish to stay.

Barca’s financial problems, though, have not gone away and the club still needs to balance the books. To that end, they reportedly need to raise €200m before June 30 to comply with FFP regulations in Spain.

As a result, there is a widening belief in Spain that at least two big-name stars will have to be sold off. And with De Jong an expensive asset, the 25-year-old midfielder once again finds himself on the chopping block.

But rather than Manchester United making a fresh move to sign him, reports in Spain believe it is Liverpool who are most likely to win the race.

And it seems Jurgen Klopp is ready to turn to De Jong as he looks to rebuild his midfield.

And such deal is likely to set Liverpool back around £75m.

However, with a similar fee needed for Alexis Mac Allister, there’s a feeling Klopp may be about to change tack.

The German, though, will not have it all his own way in the race for De Jong. And it’s also suggested that Chelsea will compete for his signing too.

Manchester United, meanwhile, look likely to prioritise other positions first. Indeed, Erik ten Hag is shopping for a new striker and two new defenders first and foremost.

KOULIBALY HEADING BACK TO ITALY AS CHELSEA FIND A BUYER

Chelsea’s summer 2022 recruit Kalidou Koulibaly appears likely to return to Serie A after just one season.

The Blues moved to sign the powerful Senegalese defender last summer. Indeed, that £33m deal made him one of the first signings of the Todd Boehly era.

Rated as one of the finest defenders in the world game at Napoli, the 31-year-old has largely struggled in England.

Indeed, the 70-times capped defender has struggled to find anywhere near his best form.

Chelsea centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly

That has led to suggestions last week that Boehly has told his own recruit it is time to go as part of a 15-man clearout.

And finding a buyer for Koulibaly appears to have been easy for the Blues. Now seems a return to Serie A is on the cards with Juventus expressing their interest in a deal.

Now, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, talks over the transfer are beginning to gather pace. And with Massimiliano Allegri reported to have spoken with his agent, it seems Koulibaly is ready to accept a move.

In an ideal world, Chelsea would love to get their money back on the defender.

However, Juve’s plan is to sign Koulibaly on an initial loan deal with an option to make the move permanent.

The sale of Koulibaly could also allow Levi Colwill a route into the Chelsea squad.

The 20-year-old star has impressed while on loan at Brighton, leading to claims Liverpool are looking to buy.

But Chelsea would rather retain the young star and can offer him more chances if they offload Koulibaly.
