Paper Talk: Arsenal turn to cheaper Plan B as Partey deal collapses

Arsenal are ready to move for a transfer alternative after a move for Thomas Partey hit a brick wall, while Chelsea’s bid to sign a £50m man looks set to collapse, according to Monday’s transfer gossip.

Arsenal are leading the chase to sign Barcelona outcast Rafinha, according to reports.

The midfielder has just completed a season-long loan deal with Celta Vigo, but will return to his parent club.

Now, according to Spanish publication Sport, the midfielder has been put up for sale at €16m.

The Gunners aren’t the only side interested, however. He’s also being watched by Everton and West Ham, while Lazio are also keen.

Sport, however, claim the midfielder would prefer a move to the Premier League.

He could, ironically, come up against his brother with Thiago Alcantara strongly linked with Liverpool. Bayern’s boss Hansi Flick cracked a joke about the midfielder’s future after Sunday’s Champions League triumph.

It’s reported the Gunners are ready to make their move after seeing their bid for Thomas Partey hit a brick wall.

Mikel Arteta has been keen on the Ghanaian for some time. However, Arsenal are unwilling to pay the £45m exit clause in his contract, reports The Sun. Atletico are also understood to have rejected their proposal to swap him with Matteo Guendouzi.

The Gunners would also have had to have paid £200,000 a week to Partey in wages and it seems the prices mentioned are just too high.

Rafinha would represent a more modest investment, but with a decent track record that also includes Inter Milan, he could prove a shrewd investment.
