TUCHEL PLANS CHELSEA, LUKAKU TRANSFER

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wants to re-sign Romelu Lukaku this summer in a bid to mount a serious title challenge, according to a report.

The Blues capped off a remarkable turnaround in this season’s fortunes with Champions League triumph against Manchester City. As a result, one pundit has claimed that the Blues will be in the driving seat to convince their transfer targets that they are on the trajectory to more silverware.

Indeed, the Premier League is in their sights after last winning it under Antonio Conte in 2017.

But while Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger have helped form a stern defence, Chelsea lack a top striker. Since Tuchel arrived in January, the Blues have only scored more than two goals in a match once in 30 matches.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane could leave this summer, but the Daily Mail reports that the rivalry between the two clubs means a deal with Chelsea is ‘virtually impossible’.

As a result, Blues bosses see former Stamford Bridge man Lukaku as the more ‘realistic’ target. That is despite Inter wanting £100million, with Chelsea looking to drive the fee down.

Serie A champions Inter could accept a lower fee, given they are looking to make one big sale due to their dire financial situation.

Lukaku‘s advisors are aware of Chelsea’s interest and so are bracing themselves to enter talks. The player struggled at Chelsea but found his feet in loan spells with West Brom and Everton.

From there, he joined the Toffees and later earned a massive move to Manchester United. However, his time there turned sour and he moved to Inter in the summer of 2019.

As well as a deal for Lukaku, The Guardian reports that Tuchel is set to sign a new contract after steering Chelsea’s turnaround.
