Arsenal face a big decision over one player ahead of Monday evening’s transfer deadline, before which Derby hope to snap up a Man Utd talent – both in the latest Paper Talk.
ARTETA FACING BIG MAITLAND-NILES DECISION
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta faces a huge decision over Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ future before the close of play on transfer deadline day, according to a report.
Maitland-Niles has made his intention to leave the Gunners before the transfer cut-off clear. Indeed, while he received serious interest from Wolves in the last transfer window, a U-turn from Arteta kept him at the club.
But the 23-year-old has since failed to earn a regular role in the team and the Daily Mirror points out his dreams of playing at Euro 2020 this summer as the key factor in his decision to leave this time around.
In fact, the newspaper says that the England international is ‘desperate’ to leave after recently entering Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions thinking.
As previously reported, Leicester and Southampton are keen on the full-back, who sees his long-term future in midfield.
What’s more, the Daily Mirror adds that Newcastle and West Brom have shown interest.
As such, Arteta faces a big decision over the player’s future. Wolves’ bid in the previous transfer window amounted to £20million, but there are concerns about whether his value would remain the same in six months’ time.
As such, they are considering cashing in now amid the ‘rush’ of late interest in Maitland-Niles’ signature.
On the other hand, the player will have two years left on his contract in the summer and could yet player a bigger role in proceedings at the Emirates Stadium.
However, the player does not see it that way for now and, as such, wants at least a loan deal to boost his game time.
Leicester are keen on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent deal.
