Chelsea and Tottenham are facing a battle to convince RB Leipzig to part company with top centre-back target Josko Gvardiol, while Arsenal have seen a £34million striker bid knocked back – all in Friday’s Transfer Gossip.
GVARDIOL TRANSFER BATTLE HOTS UP
RB Leipzig are reportedly facing a serious battle from keeping centre-back Josko Gvardiol from out of the clutches of both Chelsea and Tottenham.
The Daily Mail states that the Bundesliga outfit are currently digging their heels in. Adding that they are becoming increasingly desperate to keep their top defender.
But the fact that the Croatian has no buyout clause in his contract, which expires in 2026, also means Leipzig are bracing themselves for bids.
Chelsea are preparing to spend big following the completion of Todd Boehly’s £4.25bn takeover of the club. And Gvardiol is one of their top targets in what is likely to be a defensive rebuild at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Rudiger’s switch to Real Madrid has already been announced. Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen is poised to head to Barcelona, where he could be joined by Blues skipper Cesar Azpilicueta.
Chelsea chasing two new defenders
Gvardiol and Sevilla star Jules Kounde are well known to be Chelsea’s top defensive targets. But with the takeover now complete, the focus is now very much on boosting Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
Tottenham, meanwhile, want Gvardiol to fill the role of the left-side of their back three.
However, they also have other targets in mind – including Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni and Barcelona star Clement Lenglet.
Indeed, Gvardiol is thought to be behind those names mentioned, leaving Chelsea a clear run at the defender.
ARSENAL REBUFFED IN SCAMACCA BID
Arsenal are actively looking for a new striker but it appears they’ve already been rebuffed for one of their top targets.
Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca is very much on Mikel Arteta’s radar, with Alexandre Lacazette seemingly heading back to France.
And although Eddie Nketiah looks set to extend his stay in north London, Arteta still wants a new No.9 on board.
But appears he will have to look elsewhere after Alfredo Pedulla claimed that the Gunners had a £34million bid, plus bonuses, turned down.
Scamacca scored 16 goals last season and is regarded as one of Serie A’s most talented players.
However, he will either remain at his current club or join Inter Milan.
The Sani Siro outfit have been confirmed as the frontrunners for his signature. But they are currently fending off bids from other clubs for their top players due to their financial concerns.
While that could still leave the door open for Arsenal over Scamacca, the frontman is very unlikely to leave Italy.
EVERTON CONFIDENT OF WINNING TARKOWKSI RACE
Everton are confident of signing Newcastle United and Leeds United transfer target James Tarkowski on a free this summer, according to The Times.
A number of clubs are known to be chasing the Burnley man after the Clarets’ relegation this season.
However, The Times states that the Toffees are sure they can get a deal done. That is largely down to the fact that Tarkowski would not potentially have to relocate his family if he moved to Goodison.
The 29-year-old is also available on a free, which makes him an enticing option. And the fact that he’s been playing in the English top flight for six years only adds to his value.
