Paper Talk: Leeds ready to hand Man Utd money back for attacker

Daniel James, Jesse Lingard TEAMtalk

Leeds United are firmly in the running to sign a Manchester United attacker who could be deemed surplus to requirements, while Jose Mourinho wants to be reunited with a £30m-rated Red Devils star at Tottenham, according to Sunday’s paper gossip.

DANIEL JAMES TIPPED FOR LEEDS TRANSFER

Leeds are ready to renew their interest in Daniel James if he is ruled surplus to requirements at Manchester United.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side came within a whisker of signing the Wales winger on transfer deadline day 2019. The deal looked to be done only for Swansea to change their minds at the last minute.

That strategy appeared to pay off when James signed for the Red Devils a few months later for close to double the price.

James made a flying start to Old Trafford with three goals in his first four games.

Since then, however, his form has dried up and he has scored just once since. The young winger has also come in for severe criticism from United’s fanbase with many suggesting the player isn’t good enough.

However, the Daily Star Sunday suggests he could yet end up at Leeds after all.

The paper reckons Marcelo Bielsa’s side could give their rivals their £15m back if they plan to offload him. Leeds’ chances appear to rest on the Red Devils’ prospects of signing a new winger. To that end, Dortmund appear to have taken a tougher stance on Jadon Sancho and could now raise his asking price.

Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, Douglas Costa of Juventus and Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele have been touted as back-up options. Bournemouth winger David Brooks is another player they’ve looked closely at.

And should any of them arrive, it’s claimed James would be deemed surplus to requirements.

As per the Star, Leeds would be given the green light to sign James on a season’s loan with a view to a permanent £15m deal next summer.
