Paper Talk: Everton midfielder interest could give Liverpool bumper payday

Everton’s interest in a Serie A midfielder could give Liverpool a bumper payday, while Arsenal are interested in signing an Olympiacos star, according to Thursday’s Paper Talk.

LIVERPOOL IN LINE FOR LUIS ALBERTO PAYDAY

Liverpool could reportedly be handed a payday from Merseyside rivals Everton if they pursue midfielder Luis Alberto.

Alberto is said to be on Carlo Ancelotti’s radar as he looks to lead the club back into Europe, with the Spaniard proving a huge hit in Serie A as Lazio have emerged as major contenders for the title.

Alberto has developed a reputation as one of the most creative players in Italian football, with the 27-year-old notching 12 assists in 25 league games this season and also scoring four times.

According to the Daily Express, via Italian outlet Corriere della Sera, Ancelotti is a big admirer of Alberto and is considering bringing him back to Merseyside.

Juventus are also believed to be in the running for the player, with Maurizio Sarri impressed by his performances this season.

But should Alberto make the move across Stanley Park to Goodison, then Liverpool would at least receive a payday for their troubles.

The Reds are believed to have included a 30 per cent sell-on clause when agreeing to sell Alberto to the Italian club in 2016.

Alberto was sold for just £4.3million but his value is now thought to be worth around ten times that, with Lazio turning down a £26m bid from Sevilla last summer.

Alberto was signed by Brendan Rodgers and played a small part in the side that went close to the Premier League title in the 2013/14 season.
