Paper Talk: Klopp finally admits defeat as new plan laid out for Liverpool star’s exit

Jurgen Klopp on touchline before Liverpool v Burnley August 2021

Liverpool plan to let a star leave for free in January following past failures to sell him, while Tottenham battle Bayern Munich for a striker – both in all the latest Paper Talk.

KARIUS TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL

Liverpool will allow Loris Karius to leave for free in the January transfer window as they look to finally offload the goalkeeper, according to a report.

The 28-year-old has not played a single competitive game for the Reds since the 2018 Champions League final. Indeed, he has not been able to stamp his mark on the team again following his costly display.

Karius, who it was later revealed had concussion, came up with major errors which allowed Real Madrid to win 3-1 in Kyiv. Soon after, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spent big for Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian has not looked back since, while the changes behind him have not allowed Karius back in. He almost earned a permanent move to Basel in the summer, but the move fell through due to his wage demands.

That is not the first time Liverpool have tried and failed to move on and the Sunday Mirror subsequently reports that the Reds now want to let him move on for nothing.

PSG join Liverpool in Raphinha race

PSG join Liverpool in Raphinha race

PSG have joined Liverpool in the race for Raphinha in what is a double blow for the club, with more updates on Noa Lang and Kalvin Phillips.

Karius is out of contract at the end of the season, so he would leave as a free agent next summer anyway.

However, Liverpool want to let him resurrect his career elsewhere and will not stand in the way of his January exit.

While Alisson came in in 2018, Simon Mignolet left in 2019 and Adrian came in to replace him.

However, Liverpool now see Caoimhin Kelleher as Alisson’s long-term deputy. As such, Karius has spent the past three seasons on loan.
