Paper Talk: Liverpool keen to sign Man Utd target as price drops significantly
Liverpool are ready to join the hunt to sign Declan Rice after reports his asking price has been reduced, while Arsenal want to land a talented Crystal Palace youngster, according to Saturday’s transfer gossip.
DECLAN RICE NOW WANTED BY LIVERPOOL
Liverpool have reportedly joined the hunt to sign Declan Rice amid claims his price has fallen by £30m.
Rice has established himself as one of West Ham’s most important players since emerging from their academy ranks.
The England international has been a key component of their side for a number of years now, and at the age of 22 has a big future ahead of him.
Rice was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer. He remains a major target for them and they could reignite their efforts to land him.
Recent reports have also stated that Manchester United are also keen on a deal.
Of the two, Rice’s preference would be to return to Chelsea. However, staying with West Ham cannot be ruled out.
However, it’s now emerged that Liverpool are also keen to land the midfielder amid claims his price tag has dropped.
During the summer, Chelsea wanted as much as £80m for Rice. Now The Guardian claims West Ham have been forced to reduce their asking price to £50m.
Quite why they’d reduce their fee for the in-demand star remains to be seen, but it’s a story that’s generated interest with the Daily Express also picking up on it.
With his ability to cover both midfield and defence, Rice’s appeal to the likes of Liverpool et al is obvious. But why the Hammers would like to sell for a reduced cost is less apparent. Contracted until summer 2024, it’s not something they need to worry about soon.
However, were any of the clubs to make their move, it could give Rice something to think about.
