Paper Talk: Liverpool reach agreement to sign £18m midfielder

Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign a Ligue 1 midfielder in an £18m deal, while two Premier League clubs are battling for a Manchester United centre-back, according to Tuesday’s papers.

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement with French club Lille to sign Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches for £18m.

The Reds have been on the lookout for new midfield recruits since doubts emerged over Gini Wijnaldum’s long-term future at the club.

The Holland star has been continually tipped to make a free transfer switch to Barcelona next summer.

And with that in mind, TuttoMercatoWeb (as cited by the Daily Mirror) claims that Sanches could be on his way to Anfield.

The 23-year-old had a spell at Swansea on loan from Bayern Munich in the 2017-18 season, but failed to make much of an impression.

However, he has rediscovered his best form at Lille and may now be set for a move to Merseyside.

Depending on how much truth there is in these reports, it would appear that Wijnaldum’s days at Liverpool are numbered.

That will come as a bitter blow to Jurgen Klopp, who made the midfielder a mainstay of his title-winning side.

The Reds, meanwhile, continue to be on the hunt for a new centre-back, with reports on Monday claiming that Schalke are expecting an offer for their defensive star Ozan Kabak.
