Paper Talk: Liverpool snub leaves door open for Man Utd to sign £35m centre-back

Nordi Mukiele; Ibrahima Konate TEAMtalk

Manchester United are ready to jump in after Liverpool snubbed a move for a £35million Bundesliga centre-back, while Arsenal have been quoted £100m for an attacking target – both in Thursday’s Paper Talk.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to take advantage of Liverpool deciding against a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been monitoring the Frenhman for some time and were expected to put in an offer. However, a report on Wednesday revealed that the Premier League champions are no longer interested in the player.

That has seemingly opened the door for United to swoop, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still in the market for a new partner for Harry Maguire.

The 21-year-old has impressed alongside Dayot Upamecano at the heart of the Leipzig defence, with the latter already securing a move to Bayern Munich next season.

As for Konate, he will cost around €40m (£34.5m). That figure is around the range that United want to spend on a new centre-back recruit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Marcus Rashford is fit enough to travel with the Manchester United squad for their Europa League tie against Granada despite limping off with a knock against Brighton at the weekend.

The report on the Daily Mirror states that Konate’s playing style could be the perfect foil for Maguire.

And with Liverpool now out of the picture, the Red Devils could get a relatively free run at the talented defender.
