Liverpool could face a new battle to retain the services of arguably their biggest asset, West Ham are in the market for a Championship goalkeeper, while Monday’s transfer gossip provides more details of a Jose Mourinho approach for one of his former Manchester United favourites.
BAYERN PLAN NEW KLOPP APPROACH
Bayern Munich are willing to make a huge, new assault to appoint Jurgen Klopp as manager if they lose Hansi Flick this summer.
Flick has proved an outstanding appointment for Bayern since taking over in a caretaker capacity in November 2019. He led them to the Champions League, while successive Bundesliga titles under his leadership also look assured.
Bayern remain very much happy with him as their head coach. However, according to 90min, sources have revealed there is a growing feeling that Flick will depart this summer. The website states though that he is the leading candidate to replace Joachim Low as Germany coach when he steps down after the European Championships.
As such, they claim, amid the uncertainty, Bayern are drawing up a list of would-be replacements. And Klopp is at the top of their wanted list.
They state Klopp is the outstanding choice among Bayern’s hierarchy to succeed Flick were the latter to depart.
Klopp has been mentioned as a target for Bayern before. At that time, Klopp was happy to dismiss the speculation and commit to the Reds. But they have since undergone something of a dramatic fall off their perch. Barring a big turnaround against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals, they also look likely to finish without silverware this season.
And while links to Bayern aren’t unusual, a firm approach from Bayern could give Klopp something to think about.
