Paper Talk: Man Utd, Arsenal battling for versatile Bundesliga striker

Date published: Sunday 25th April 2021 9:36 - Robert McCarthy

Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head for a versatile Bundesliga striker this summer, while Sunday’s transfer gossip also claims that FSG have rejected a huge bid to buy Liverpool.

MAN UTD, ARSENAL FACE OFF FOR PLEA

Manchester United and Arsenal are both reportedly set to do battle for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Alassane Plea this summer.

The 28-year-old has impressed over the past three Bundesliga seasons, notching 34 goals in 104 games for the German outfit.

That has led to significant interest from clubs across Europe. However, the Daily Mail claims that United and the Gunners are ready to move for a player who can move for a bargain £15million this summer.

The Frenchman, who has previously been linked with West Ham and Tottenham, has the ability to play numerous attacking roles. That is a trait that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mikel Arteta both value.

The Red Devils are known to be in the hunt for a new No.9, with Edinson Cavani expected to head back to South America at the end of the season.

The fact that Plea could also play on the right of a front three is also a benefit to United, given that is another position that Solskjaer wants to strengthen.

As for Arsenal, they have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit ninth in the Premier League. The Gunners have not been helped by skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s poor form in front of goal.

The likes of Nicolas Pepe and Willian have also struggled to impress, so Plea could end up being an important upgrade if he comes in.

The Mail adds that Plea is ready to leave the Bundesliga this summer, so that should help these clubs if they do decide to step up their interest.
