Paper Talk: Man Utd chief Murtough working on four transfers Woodward failed on

Manchester United are looking into the possibility of resurrecting transfer deals for four former targets, while Monday’s transfer gossip claims Liverpool are ready to make a £15m bid for a Turkey star.

FOUR DEALS IN SIGHT FOR MURTOUGH AT MAN UTD

Manchester United football director John Murtough may look to resurrect four transfers the club have previously failed on this summer.

Murtough has been brought in alongside Darren Fletcher as technical director. The two of them, along with guidance from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have taken transfers matters off Ed Woodward. Between them all, the trio are working on a transfer strategy this summer aimed at further strengthening United next season.

Indeed, as per the Daily Mirror, Murtough has spent the first few weeks of his job exploring the possibility of some of the club’s failures on the market. And the paper claims United’s new football director could look to resurrect some of those if he feels they’d still suit the club.

Top of his list, they claim, is Juventus forward Paulo Dybala. The 27-year-old looks likely to move on this summer after fading from the first-team picture. His contract expires in summer 2022 and there is talk he wants to play with Bruno Fernandes. United could look to offer Paul Pogba in part exchange should the Frenchman also fail to sign a new deal.

Murtough is also said to be looking into the validity of signing Sergio Ramos as a free agent. With his deal expiring at the Bernabeu, the veteran defender looks set to move on. Signing Ramos, however, would not be cheap. Despite being 34, he’s said to be seeking a two-year deal worth £200,000 a week.

Varane and Haaland linked

Sky Sports reporter James Cooper says Manchester United chief executive Ed Woodward is 'bullish' about the club's progress both on and off the pitch after the release of their second quarter fiscal results.

His Los Blancos teammate Raphael Varane is another United have tried and failed with in the past. With his deal also expiring in 2022, Real could be forced to sell this summer. Indeed, it was claimed last week that United had ‘already convinced’ the World Cup winner to sign.

The fourth player Murtough is ‘working on’ is that man Erling Haaland. The Norwegian powerhouse was, of course a narrow miss by United in January 2020. He’s since gone from strength to strength at Borussia Dortmund – but signing him would not come cheap.

With figures of £120m being bandied about, Murtough will consider the merits of a fresh approach by United this summer.
