Paper Talk: Man Utd exploring chance of massive midfield swap deal

David Moyes; Ole Gunnar Solskjaer TEAMtalk

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of doing a massive midfield swap deal this summer, while Kylian Mbappe has finally picked his next club – both in Friday’s Paper Talk.

SWAP DEAL ON CARDS FOR UNITED

Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of a swap deal involving Declan Rice and Jesse Lingard after ‘talks on England duty’.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has long been a fan of the 22-year-old Hammers star, who has continued his meteoric rise to become Gareth Southgate’s defensive midfield pivot.

Chelsea are also among a host of European giants keen to re-sign their former academy product, who David Moyes insists will cost in excess of £100m.

The West Ham boss is keen to keep Rice, however – especially if his side qualify for next season’s Champions League.

But according to The Athletic, United are ready to discuss a swap deal that will see Lingard move in the opposite dierction.

The 28-old-old has been is sensational form since moving to the London Stadium on loan. He has been involved in a league-high nine goals since his debut, level with Harry Kane.

Solskjaer: Second goal was important

Solskjaer: Second goal was important

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says the second goal against Granada gives them a bit of breathing space going into the second leg of their Europa League Quarter Final.

Moyes is desperate to make Lingard’s loan move permanent, with the latest reports suggesting that United will demand at least £30m for the player.

But the Red Devils could shave that figure off any asking price West Ham demand for their top man.

Rice, who is currently out injured, is seen as a long-term replacement for 33-year-old Nemanja Matic at Old Trafford. His ability to also play centre-back makes him a dual option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a valuable commodity in today’s game.
