Paper Talk: Man Utd want to pair Serie A star with Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United are ready to make their move for a Serie A contract rebel, while Everton could offer an unlikely escape route for an out-of-favour Tottenham star, according to Monday’s transfer gossip.

Manchester United are strongly considering the chance to sign AC Milan attacking midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu in January, according to reports.

United have been linked with the Turkey star for a number of weeks as they turn their thoughts to January.

Calhanoglu will be out of contract in the summer and talks over a new deal have stalled. The player is said to have asked for a four-year deal worth £115,000 a week – a price Milan are unwilling to match.

But that’s a salary he’d have no problems earning by moving to United.

While he is available on a free in the summer, United will strongly consider an approach next month.

As such, the Daily Express claims United have been quoted a fee of around £20m to land the player in January.

United will have to compete with Juventus for Calhanoglu’s signature.

However, Juve want to sign the Turk on a free in the summer – hence United making their move now.

According to reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sees Calhanoglu as the perfect compliment to Bruno Fernandes in midfield.

However, any deal for Calhanoglu would likely depend on Jesse Lingard’s exit first. The 27-year-old has been linked with Real Sociedad.

The arrival of Calhanoglu would also place further question marks over Paul Pogba’s future.
