Paper Talk: Man Utd to hijack £31m Liverpool midfielder move

Manchester United could hijack Liverpool’s £31m move for a Bundesliga midfielder, while Tottenham are chasing a £25m centre-back, according to Sunday’s paper gossip.

MAN UTD JOIN LIVERPOOL IN THIAGO RACE

Thiago Alcantara could reportedly join Manchester United, despite strong rumours that he is Liverpool bound.

The Bayern Munich star will leave the Allianz Arena this summer after failing to agree a new contract.

The 29-year-old still has one year remaining on his current deal. But he has stressed that he wants a new challenge.

Thiago has won seven Bundesliga titles in Bavaria. But this may be his last chance to join another big club, and he is keen to take it.

Liverpool are said to have emerged as major suitors, with Bayern ready to do business at £31million.

CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed on Friday that the player will leave the club. However, at this stage there have been no negotiations with Liverpool.

Now in a surprising twist, Bild, via the Daily Express, claims that Thiago could actually join United.

There was said to be talk in the Bayern dressing room that Thiago was heading to Anfield. But it now looks the Reds will have competition.

Ed Woodward has taken out a loan of £140million to help United land their top targets.

And this is not the first time that United have been linked with a move for Thiago.

In fact, he came close to moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 under David Moyes.
