Paper Talk: Man Utd one of five in the mix as Aguero picks next club

Manchester United have made a firm approach for Sergio Aguero, but seemingly face disappointment, while Wednesday’s transfer gossip details the enormous financial package Erling Haaland will demand to join Manchester City.

Manchester United have reportedly made a shock bid to sign Manchester City icon Sergio Aguero after his contract expires at the Etihad this summer.

The City legend has confirmed he will move on this summer after 10, trophy-laden years in the blue half of Manchester. His exit will leave Pep Guardiola with a huge shoes to fill, given his incredible scoring record.

However, focus has already turned to Aguero’s next club – and it seems he has been offered the chance to stay in the Premier League. As per the Daily Mail, via Foot Mercato, both Chelsea and United have made an approach.

However, the competition, as you’d expect, is fierce with Inter Milan and PSG also making contact over a deal. As per the article though, they all face disappointment with Aguero’s mind set on playing at Barcelona.

They are said to be the Argentine’s first-choice destination, with Barca chiefs more than happy given he’s available on a free. It’s claimed the prospect of linking up with countryman Lionel Messi holds huge appeal, given he’s a close friend.

Aguero’s potential arrival is a double win for Barca. Chiefs will hope his arrival could also convince the unsettled Messi to sign a new deal.

Signing Aguero, however, is not as cut and dried as it appears. Ronald Koeman reportedly wants Memphis Depay – also available on a free – as a priority. New president Joao Laporte, meanwhile, is ready to put all his eggs in the Erling Haaland basket.

Incredibly, Barca were also linked with an approach for Harry Kane on Wednesday morning.
