Manchester United are looking to offload four players this summer in a bid to boost their transfer warchest, Man City are chasing a Sporting Lisbon man, while Monday’s transfer gossip claims Leeds are on the trail of a Liverpool defender.
QUARTET UP FOR SALE AT MANCHESTER UNITED
Manchester United are looking to wave farewell to four players this summer as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to increase his summer warchest.
The United manager is said to be looking for ‘two to three’ signings this summer – a centre-half, a striker and a right-back.
However, it’s reported he has only been handed a modest budget of £80m – with the rest having to come from player sales.
As such, Metro reports that four stars will be on their way this summer in a bid to boost their coffers.
As per the article, Solskjaer hopes to add an additional £50m to his budget with the sales.
The first one out the door will be Jesse Lingard, who should complete a £15m move to West Ham. He has found his groove again under David Moyes as the Hammers chase a European place.
The second out the door will be another loanee in Diogo Dalot. The full-back, currently on loan at AC Milan, is likely to depart for around £15m.
Phil Jones on his way
Solskjaer also hopes to raise up to £10m from the sale of forgotten defender Phil Jones. He’s not played for United all season, but still has admirers in the game. The likes of Burnley, Newcastle and West Ham have all been previously linked.
And finally, this summer will mark the exit of long-serving playmaker Juan Mata. He’s been at United since a then club-record £37.1m move from Chelsea in January 2014.
While his contract is due to expire this summer, United will likely trigger an extension before putting him up for sale.
Having played just 12 times this season, Mata is likely to fetch around £5m – £10m. Roma, Inter and Juventus have all been touted as possible suitors. Clubs in his homeland have also been tipped to make a move.
