Paper Talk: Man Utd eyeing shock free transfer move for old boy

Manchester United are considering making a shock move for an old boy next summer, while Leeds are lining up an ambitious replacement for Marcelo Bielsa, all in Sunday’s papers.

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Jonny Evans’ contract situation at Leicester.

A report in the Sun on Sunday claims that United are considering bringing Evans back to Old Trafford on a free net summer, if he has not penned a new Foxes deal by the tyrn of the year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add a left-sided centre-back to his squad. But the report claims he has a budget of just £20million in January, unless more funds are raised through sales.

Evans, 32, is in the final year of his deal with the Foxes. He has previously admitted he would be happy to extend his stay, but nothing has been agreed so far.

And now the report in The Sun claims that Evans’ name has been flagged up by United’s player acquisition team as a possible cut-price transfer option.

Evans came through the Old Trafford ranks as a schoolboy. He made 131 Premier League appearances for the club over a decade before heading to West Brom in 2015.

He moved to Leicester two years ago, but a United source revealed: “Johnny’s name has come up in conversation.

“There are still a lot of people here who have plenty of time for him – and that includes Ole and Mike Phelan.”
