Paper Talk: Man Utd plan surprise swoop for LaLiga star as competition for regular

Kieran Trippier, Pedri

Manchester United want to bring an Atletico Madrid star to Old Trafford to increase competition to a regular star, a Burnley defender is set to extend his stay, while Chelsea have been given first refusal on a classy Juventus man, according to Monday’s transfer gossip.

TRIPPIER WANTED BY MAN UTD

Kieran Trippier is being chased by Manchester United as they look to strengthen at right-back in January.

That’s according to the Daily Telegraph, who claims Trippier is near the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer wish-list. The broadsheet claims United want Trippier to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Wan-Bissaka has featured 15 times this season and has impressed.

However, Solskjaer sees the 30-year-old as the perfect player to bring into his squad. The fact that Trippier has also covered at left-back for England makes him extra appealing.

The United manager has no concerns over Wan-Bissaka. However, the Telegraph report he wants Trippier brought in as a more attacking alternative.

Trippier quit Tottenham for Atletico Madrid in summer 2019 for £20m. He has impressed for Diego Simeone’s side, who sit top of LaLiga, and have two matches in hand.

However, he has just 18 months left on his deal and United believe he could be lured away for the right price.

Quite what that price would be remains to be seen.

United though are being tipped to make their move in January and could even wait until the summer to land him.

The full-back has 25 caps for England. He’ll forever be remembered for his free-kick in the World Cup semi-final against Croatia.
