Paper Talk: Man Utd, Tottenham join hunt for impressive Brighton star

Adam Lallana, Ben White, Neal Maupay

The race is on to sign one of Brighton’s top stars, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham all plotting moves, while Everton are favourites to sign a Barcelona defender, according to Wednesday’s transfer gossip.

BEN WHITE A MAN IN DEMAND

Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea have joined the string of clubs monitoring Brighton defender Ben White.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim new data has shown the Englishman in a new positive light. Citing Wyscout’s index rating, White is currently the fourth best performing central defender in the Premier League. Only Kurt Zouma, Gabriel Magalhaes and Thiago Silva rate higher so far.

White earned his reputation while on loan at Leeds last season. Indeed, Marcelo Bielsa’s side saw three bids to sign him in the summer rejected. Their final bid topped £25m before they moved onto another target.

It’s clear now for all to see why Leeds were so keen to land White.

Having started all 10 of Brighton’s Premier League games so far, the defender has proved the step-up in level hasn’t hindered his development.

Liverpool are also looking at the 23-year-old as a potential signing. Indeed, Jurgen Klopp’s side were strongly linked with White over the summer.

However, the report claims Chelsea, Tottenham and now Manchester United are also keen on the player.

Now rated nearer the £50m mark, it’s suggested United, Spurs and Chelsea are all considering bids next year.

Brighton will, however, fight tooth and nail to keep White, who only signed a new four-year deal earlier this year.
