Manchester United have a new, obtainable, No 1 defensive target this summer, Arsenal are chasing a new left-back, while Kylian Mbappe could force Sergio Ramos out at Real Madrid, according to Tuesday’s transfer gossip.
KONATE THE MAN SOLSKJAER WANTS
RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate has reportedly been put right at the top of Manchester United’s transfer wish-list this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seeking a new defender to take his side to the next level and help ensure they can push for the title.
They were keen on his Leipzig teammate Dayot Upamecano. However, it seems he is destined for Bayern Munich as they prepare for a double exit themselves.
And just like Upamecano, Konate has a release clause himself which kicks in this summer. However, the price needed to prise the 21-year-old away from Leipzig stands at just €30m (£26.5m).
That fee has, understandly, grabbed United’s attention, according to the Independent. The paper, however, states United aren’t alone in their pursuit of Konate. The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal are also said to be keen.
BILD’s Christian Falk claims Leipzig fully expect Konate to leave.
“Of course he’s in great demand,” Falk said.
“But he’s also got an exit clause of around €30m (£26.5million) plus that can be made possible this summer.
“Leipzig have to be prepared for an exciting summer transfer window if they are to avoid losing two centre-backs come the end of it.”
However, there is a growing belief at United that they can win the race for his signature. Furthermore, he may prove – pound for pound – a more shrewd investment than Upamecano.
At just 21 years old, Konate looks a seriously good prospect. With 11 France U21 caps to his name, it surely won’t be long before he graduates to the full Les Bleus squad.
