Paper Talk: Liverpool snubbed by Ligue 1 defender as Klopp targets winger

Mohamed Simakan

Liverpool have missed out on a top defensive target – but could sign a £40m winger instead, West Ham want a Montpellier striker, while Jesse Lingard is set for a shock Premier League loan, according to Monday’s transfer gossip.

SIMAKAN SNUBS LIVERPOOL INTEREST

Mohamed Simakan has snubbed interest from Liverpool as he prepares to move to RB Leipzig, according to reports.

The powerful Strasbourg defender is up for sale this month for a bargain €15m fee, with Liverpool said to be keen.

However, reports in Germany, via the Daily Mirror, claim Simakan has rejected late advances from the Reds. Instead, the 20-year-old is on the brink of signing for RB Leipzig.

Indeed, Sky Germany claims Simakan has now agreed personal terms with the Bundesliga side. The transfer is expected to go through in the coming days.

The capture of Simakan will free up reported Liverpool and Man Utd target Dayot Upamecano to leave Leipzig. The French defender can leave for just €42m this summer and is expected to sign for Bayern Munich.

News of the snub will come as a blow for Liverpool. They played midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson as centre-halves on Sunday.

However, Jurgen Klopp is already looking to strengthen elsewhere. As such, the Mirror claims Liverpool are back in the market for Adama Traore.

They claim the 24-year-old could be sold by Wolves this month. He’s been way below his best form of last season.

His price tag is now just £40m as a result of his form and a contract stand-off.

The paper claims Liverpool could move now amid rival interest from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Leeds United.
