Paper Talk: Champ side confident of recouping £35m from Man Utd for top star

Max Aarons TEAMtalk

Manchester United will have to pay £35m if they want to land a defensive target this summer, while a Liverpool midfield target has no interest in signing – both in Thursday’s Paper Talk.

NORWICH SET MAX AARONS PRICE

Norwich are reportedly confidfent they can recoup £35million by selling Max Aarons to Manchester United this summer, having recently rejected a bid of £20m from Italian side Roma.

The England Under-21 international looked to be on his way out of Carrow Road after the Canaries were relegated last season. However, the club namaged to keep hold of one of theeir prized assets.

Tottenham and Bayern Munich were the main suitors back then, with Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber hinting at interest from the Bundesliga giants earlier this year.

“The only interest was in Max. No other players,” said Webber.

“We decided not to act on that interest, with Max’s blessing I must add, because it was from abroad and wouldn’t have been quite right for him and definitely wasn’t right for us at that time. ‘It was about keeping the squad together.’

However, while Aarons was always keen on staying put, Norwich know their chances of him remaining again depend largely on winning promotion back to the top flight.

At this stage that looks pretty good, with Daniel Farke’s men seven points clear at the top of the Championship.

Roma bid already rejected

The Sun claims that Norwich have already rejected a £20m offer from Roma, as they wait on their promotion fate.

The Canaries believe they can get as much as £35m for the full-back, who wants to remain in England.

Chelsea v Man Utd Match Preview, February 28, 2021

A look ahead to the Premier League game between Chelsea and Man Utd, including stats on form, possession, shots, cards, corners, top scorers and previous meetings.

That is likely to put United at the front of the queue, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting to bring in more competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Red Devils boss wants a more attacking option to call on, as Wan-Bissaka struggles with that side of his game.

That has already worked well in the left-back position, where Luke Shaw has excelled after the club signed Alex Telles as competition for the England defender.

As for the Canries, recouping as much as £35m for Aarons would allow them to strengthen other areas of their team, assuming the do go back up again this season.
