Paper Talk: Salah agent sets new demand as Euro giant prepares move
There has been a fresh update regarding the state of play between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool in contract negotiations, while Manchester City are battling the same rival for two players – all in Tuesday’s transfer gossip.
AGENT RAISES SALAH WAGE DEMANDS
Mohamed Salah is seeking a weekly wage of £500,000 from any new contract he signs at Liverpool.
Salah recently indicated a desire to spend the rest of his career at Liverpool. However, as things stand, his contract will expire in 2023.
Liverpool have thus outlined his situation as a priority issue to resolve. But given his status as arguably the most in-form player in the world, an extension will not come cheap.
Approaching his 30s, Liverpool must weigh up whether it would be worth investing in Salah for a longer term. But on current form it would seem unreasonable to consider letting him go.
That may play into his hands – or his agent’s – and details have now emerged of what he would be demanding from a new contract.
According to Football Insider, Salah wants half a million pounds every week as part of a new Liverpool contract. It would make him the club’s best-paid player of all time.
Such a figure is slightly higher than what had previously been reported and will give Reds chiefs some serious thinking to do.
Liverpool target Karim Adeyemi available for £25m in summer
Liverpool target Karim Adeyemi will reportedly be available for £25m in the summer, with more updates on Kalvin Phillips and Ousmane Dembele.
Representative Ramy Abbas is driving the demands for his client. As long as Salah continues his fine form, their position will be strengthened.
Now, it will be up to Liverpool’s Boston-based owners to make the final decisions. At present, they are “reluctant” to give him a new deal on money-no-object terms given that they would last until his mid-30s.
Therefore, an agreement is “some way away” despite Salah’s recent promising comments.
That may be a concern given that Ekrem Konur is reporting that Real Madrid are monitoring the situation and will move for Salah if Liverpool fail to tie him down.
