Paper Talk: Man Utd star closing in on Everton switch
Everton have opened talks over a deal to sign a Man Utd star, while a West Ham lynchpin is demanding a move to Chelsea before the window shuts, according to Friday’s transfer gossip.
MAN UTD STAR IN EVERTON TALKS
Everton have reportedly contacted Manchester United over a move to sign Sergio Romero before the October 5 transfer deadline.
Romero appears to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after the club decided to bring back Dean Henderson from his loan spell.
David de Gea remains the No 1 choice, but Romero has now lost his spot as United’s stopper.
The 33-year-old has been at United since 2015 and has never let the club down when called upon.
However, he has never been able to oust De Gea to become a regular in the team, despite the Spaniard making several high-profile howlers in recent years.
Romero is now seeking a new challenge in a move that will also suit United as they look to trim their squad.
A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with a move for the Argentine shot-stopper.
But Everton may now be leading the race for his signature, with Carlo Ancelotti seemingly losing faith with the error-prone Jordan Pickford.
According to The Sun, as cited by the Express, Everton have already made contact with the Red Devils regarding a possible move.
Romero is said to be available for £6million, with Valencia and AC Milan also reportedly interested.
