Paper Talk: Six-way striker merry-go-round could see incredible Liverpool, PSG swap

Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool have again been linked with a move for Kylian Mbappe – but only if they sacrifice Mohamed Salah, while Manchester United have their eyes on a Championship right-back, according to Saturday’s transfer gossip.

Liverpool remain in with a strong chance of landing Kylian Mbappe this summer as part of an incredible striker merr-go-round.

As per Marca, PSG will likely be forced into selling the France superstar this summer with his contract due to expire in 2022.

He has admitted that while he remains happy in Paris, he’s yet to decide whether to commit to a new deal.

Real Madrid remain the most obvious suitors – but any chance they have of landing him depends on their ability to offload Eden Hazard and Vinicius Junior.

And failure to find any suitors is likely to open the door for Liverpool.

However, the report claims much will depend on what Lionel Messi decides to do. The Argentine superstar is likely to leave Barcelona on a free transfer this summer. A move to Paris would appease their fans in the wake of Mbappe’s exit.

However, Manchester City also remain keen on Messi and could allow Sergio Aguero to move the other way.

Should Barcelona fail to land Aguero, they could yet turn to Mohamed Salah. The Spanish paper claims he is the player Liverpool will sacrifice to make room for Mbappe in a new-look Anfield attack.

Bizarely, they don’t rule out a move to PSG for Salah. They are the one club who would have the finances to sign him; their need becoming greater were Mbappe to leave and them to miss out on Messi.

Either way, the whole saga appears little more than speculation and conjecture at this stage.

Salah stated recently he wants to stay at Liverpool for as long as he can, meaning any exit may be against his will.

But with finances tight around the world right now, you’d have to ask who could afford him?

The departure of Messi at Barcelona might well set the ball rolling, while PSG’s stance on Mbappe will be one to watch if the striker continues to resist a new deal.
