Paper Talk: Tottenham near £51m centre-back signing; Man City’s Sancho windfall

Tottenham have stepped up their chase to land a top centre-back target but will have to pay £51million, while Thursday’s transfer gossip also has news of Manchester City’s windfall as rivals United close in on Jadon Sancho.

Tottenham have finally solved their managerial conundrum, with the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo, and it now looks like they are ramping up their player recruitment.

The former Wolves boss was announced on Wednesday night, with pre-season training set to begin imminently.

But with Nuno now on board, sporting director Fabio Paratici is now focusing on getting new signings through the door.

And according to reports on Thursday, Tottenham are knocking on the door of a deal for long-term target Milan Skriniar.

The centre-back position was a problem position under Jose Mourinho, with Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez all having their issues last season.

According to, Spurs are closing in on a deal for 26-year-old Inter Milan star Skriniar.

The Slovakia international has been a target for Tottenham for more than 18 months, and the report states that Inter are now demanding €60 million (£51million) for one of their star men.

Daniel Levy and Paritici are hoping that price may drop, as cash-strapped Inter look to sell off some of their top stars.

Skriniar would certainly give Tottenham the commanding central defender they have been craving.

However, at this stage it remains to be seen if Nuno will adopt his preferred 3-5-2 formation in north London, or revert to the 4-4-2 he ended the campaign with Wolves with.

Skriniar is comfortable playing in both, but he was employed in the former with Inter last term.
