Transfer Gossip: Man Utd considering 27-goal striker with £68m buy-back clause at Prem rival; Nottingham Forest launch £20m winger bid
Manchester United are considering turning to Serie A for a new striker as an insurance policy over Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford’s futures, while Friday’s Transfer Gossip claims Nottingham Forest have made a £20million winger bid.
TAMMY ABRAHAM ON MAN UTD RADAR
Manchester United are reportedly considering making a move for Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
Doubts continue over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford, and now reports claim PSG are hunting Marcus Rashford – news that will no doubt send shockwaves through Erik ten Hag and the club.
talkSPORT pundits Ally McCoist and Simon Jordan claim it makes sense for United to try and sign the England forward.
The 24-year-old scored 27 goals and added five assists in all competitions for Roma last season as they won the Europa Conference League.
The problem for United is that Chelsea have a £68million buy-back option on the player they sold for £34m last summer.
Jordan said: “Both Chelsea and Manchester United need centre forwards, Abraham has scored 17 or 18 goals [in Serie A] for Roma last year, I am not sure why he is not in the conversation for Manchester United or Chelsea.
“With United, the conversation starts with a transfer policy. What is happening with Manchester City, is that they are buying the best players, and making them better with the coach they have got.
“That is United’s job.”
Mourinho unlikely to sanction Abraham exit
At this stage, it’s unclear whether Mourinho will even sanction Abraham‘s exit, given what he’s trying to build at Roma.
The likes of Chelsea and Tottenham are also chasing forward Nicolo Zaniolo. To that end, there is no way Mourinho will want to lose his two main attacking options this summer.
For United, much now depends on how the futures of Ronaldo and Rashford pan out before September 1.
FOREST MAKE EMMANUEL DENNIS BID
Nottingham Forest have reportedly rekindled their interest in Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis but face competition from Brighton for Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan.
The newly promoted Premier League side have already spent in excess of £85million on new players this summer. However, Steve Copper still wants to strengthen his squad further.
Forest have identified both Dennis and Estupinan as potential targets they would like to sign before the window shuts on September 1.
A report from The Athletic claims the City Ground outfit have tabled a £20m opening offer for Dennis. That figure also includes any potential add-ons.
However, Watford are thought to be holding out for nearer to £25m for one of their top performers.
Dennis scored 10 Premier League goals for the Hornets last season despite their relegation. He can also play out wide or through the middle.
Forest may face a fight to get their man, however, with Everton and Villarreal also keen on the 24-year-old.
As for Estupinan, the attacking full-back has also been linked with Tottenham.
MAN CITY CONSIDERING KIERAN TIERNEY BID
Manchester City are still reportedly looking at left-back options, despite agreeing a fee with Anderlecht for Sergio Gomes.
The former Barcelona academy product is closing in on an £11million switch to The Etihad. However, reports on Friday suggest that another left-sided defender could join Gomes in Manchester.
Atletico Madrid’s Brazilian star Renan Lodi is one star being linked. But City could be ready to raid Arsenal for Scotland international Kieran Tierney instead.
Pep Guardiola’s spent most of the early part of the summer window chasing Marc Cucurella. However, the Brighton man eventually ended up at Chelsea in a £55m deal.
That forced the City boss to look at other targets and Tierney could be a genuine option.
Arsenal took Oleksandr Zinchenko from The Etihad this summer. And it was Ukrainian who got the nod over Tierney for the season-opening win at Crystal Palace.
At this stage, it’s unclear whether the Gunners are prepared to do business for Tierney. However, with the right-sided Joao Cancelo asked to fill in at left-back again for City at West Ham, it looks like Pep is determined to strengthen the position before the window shuts on September 1.
