Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd pipped to classy free-transfer signing

Hakan Calhanoglu TEAMtalk

Manchester United’s hopes of snapping up Hakan Calhanoglu could have hit the buffers, while Chelsea want a Malmo centre-back, all in the Euro Papers.

CALHANOGLU SNAP

Manchester United could be heading for disappointment regarding a possible move for Hakan Calhanoglu.

According to renowned Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, United are looking to lure the AC Milan playmaker to Old Trafford as he is out of contract in 2021.

Falk recebtly claimed that the Red Devils have been interested in Calhanoglu for some time. He also claims the player turned down advances from Juventus, knowing that United were keen on him.

But things may well have changed after Calhanoglu was seen with his Turkish compatriot Merih Demiral in Turin.

Football Italia claim rumours of a possible move to Turin are destined to intensify as Calhanoglu shared a picture on Instagram, which Demiral posted of the pair in Turin.

The 26-year-old has entered the final year of his deal and he has held talks with Milan about an extension. However, those discussions remain at an initial stage and Calhanoglu’s salary remains the sticking point.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Calhanoglu’s agent is talking with several clubs ahead of a potential pre-contract agreement in January.

Calhanoglu, who is on a €2.5m-a-year deal at the San Siro, is demanding a salary that exceeds €6m, claims the source.
