Paper Talk: Leeds chase classy international on free transfer

Julian Draxler TEAMtalk

Leeds United are hot on the trail again for Julian Draxler, while Manchester United have a Sevilla defender in their sights and a rival Premier League club wants to land Gini Wijnaldum, all in the papers.

LEEDS CHASE DRAXLER AGAIN

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Julian Draxler is once again a target for Leeds United.

The Germany international was interesting Leeds last summer, but they could not get a deal together to lure the 27-year-old across The Channel.

Now though Gazzetta dello Sport claims Leeds have once again emerged as potential suitors with Draxler set to leave for free next summer.

Leeds could face competition from Hertha Berlin, but Andrea Radrizzani is keen on giving Marcelo Bielsa some added quality to his squad.

Draxler, who admitted recently that he almost left PSG for a new challenge, has played nine times, scoring two goals and one assist this season.

The player is free to speak to foreign clubs in January with his deal set to run out in June 2021.

In October Draxler admitted he considered a move away but could not find a situation that suited him.

“In the summer I thought about trying to do something else,” Draxler said. “Due to the coronavirus situation, it was ultimately difficult to find a club where I would have said: ‘Everything fits well together, I definitely want to [come here]’.

“That was not the case, so I decided that I would not dare to take a quick shot and keep looking for my chance at Paris.”
