Paper Talk: Panic stations as Liverpool revive January interest in 21-year-old

Liverpool have two targets to replace Gini Wijnaldum, while they are set to revive their interest in a centre-back after their latest injuries and Chelsea have two big signings on their radar this summer, all in the papers.

Liverpool are set to reopen their interest in Lille defender Sven Botman before the January transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

That’s the verdict from the Sunday World, who say Liverpool are ‘likely’ to reinvestigate a move for Botman,

After losing both Fabinho and Joel Matip to injuries on Thursday Jurgen Klopp has been plunged into a defensive crisis.

The Reds boss hinted that the champions may have to go into the market before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

Klopp said: “We need to find the right player, we have players, not a lot in the defensive line, it is incredible what is happening there, really incredible.”

Botman is rated at around £20m to £30m having only joined for £7m last summer.

The Daily Express claims the 21-year-old is a “stylistic fit” and Lille could be willing to do a deal given the financial problems engulfing Ligue 1.

Fabrizio Romano has also suggested that Liverpool might consider a move for a centre-back after the injuries to Matip and Fabinho.

Meanwhile, it seems increasingly likely that Georginio Wijnaldum will leave Liverpool during the summer.

And Fabrizio Romano believes Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Lille’s Renato Sanches are the two main targets to replace the Dutchman.
