Ronaldo’s future in Serie A assured, says Juventus chief Nedved

Cristiano Ronaldo TEAMtalk

Juventus vice-chairman Pavel Nedved has said Cristiano Ronaldo will see out his contract in Turin and will not be leaving the club beforehand.

The talismanic striker, 36, has continued to defy his years since arriving from Real Madrid for £100m back in 2018. The Portugal star has 95 goals in 123 games for Juve, including 30 this season. And his strike recently against Napoli in the Italian Super Cup moved him top of the all-time goalscoring charts. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner recently moved past the legendary Pele (757).

Despite his personal triumphs Juve’s season has not gone according to plan.

Inter Milan appear poised to break the Turin club’s stranglehold on the Serie A title. Furthermore, another early exit in the Champions League materialised after bowing out to FC Porto on away goals.

Rumblings of a potential switch have therefore emerged, with Man Utd predictably reported to be in the mix.

The club were recently said to have turned down a possible reunion last season. Nevertheless, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s recent comments appeared to leave the door ajar.

Chelsea have also been mentioned as potential suitors to take on the star this summer, but Nedved says he is staying in Turin.

“For me, Ronaldo can’t be touched,” Nedved said in an interview with DAZN. “He has a contract until June 30, 2022 and will stay. What happens after that remains to be seen.

Mina Rzouki predicts Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Juventus

Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to stay at Juventus for at least another season despite the club's surprise Champions League exit at the hands of Porto, according to Italian football expert Mina Rzouki.

“Cristiano, both technically and in terms of image, pushed us towards the peak of football. On a technical level, you can’t fault him. He’s scored more than 100 goals in 120 games and he dragged us into the Champions League.

“We can criticise him – we all have to be open to criticism when we make a mistake – but to question his numbers and what he gives us in every game, for me, isn’t fair.

“He’s a simple guy, even if it doesn’t seem like that from the outside.

“Kids will study his physique and his career. He’s the prototype of the modern player who, with immense talent and a lot of work, has achieved incredible goals.”

Pirlo backed by Juventus

Head coach Andrea Pirlo’s future has also been questioned. Critics have pointed to his lack of experience in management to the reason why Juve have fallen behind Inter this season,

Nedved though says Pirlo’s future is safe.

“Pirlo is, and will be, the Juventus coach. 100 per cent,” he said. “We committed to a project with Andrea knowing the difficulties that would arise. The difficulties were foreseen.

“We have a new coach with a very rejuvenated squad at our disposal. We are very calm – we’re on the path we wanted to be and will continue on this path.

“He has everything to become a great coach.”
