Talks continue as Man Utd are given hope over failed bid for Monaco man

Benoit Badiashile Monaco

Manchester United have seen an opening €25m bid for Benoit Badiashile rejected by Monaco, according to reports in France.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is seeking to bolster his central defensive options this summer. Harry Maguire remains a mainstay in the defence, but the jury remains out on Victor Lindelof as his partner. The Swede was seen rowing with Bruno Fernandes after their Europa League hopes were ended by Sevilla.

To that end, United continue to be linked with Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese defender is rated in the €90m bracket, though there are reports Napoli could accept nearer €70m.

United’s focus, however, remains on bolstering their attack. As such, a deal for Jadon Sancho continues to bubble under the scenes. The Borussia Dortmund winger is still convinced the move will happen too.

Any deal though is likely to come at a record price for United. Therefore, any deal for a centre-back is likely to be more modest. United had been in the hunt for Gabriel Magalhaes, until he opted for Arsenal in a €30m.

After failing to land the Brazilian, United have instead turned their attention of Badiashile, instead.

The teenager has long been watched by United and Bayer Leverkusen – and now the Red Devils have made their move.

As per RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi, United have seen an initial €25m bid rejected by the Ligue 1 side.

Furthermore, he states that recently-appointed Monaco boss Niko Kovac has ‘told his board he wants to keep Badiashile’ and ‘they should reject all bids for him’.

However, there remains hope for United and a sale is not yet out of the question.

Bouhafsi states that United could yet land the 19-year-old were they to make an offer Monaco find impossible to resist. United had similar success when prising Anthony Martial from the Ligue 1 side back in 2015.

As per the report, it will simply come down to how much United want to sign the defender. It’s claimed that if Solskjaer and Co are serious, then a raised offer will be lodged for the defender. To that end, a fee of €30m has been mooted in the past. Talks over a prospective transfer continue to see if common ground can be agreed.
