Liverpool transfers: Klopp in dreamland as significant Bayern Munich coup gets greenlight and Tuchel raids Chelsea for replacement

Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to let Liverpool target Benjamin Pavard move to Anfield this summer with Thomas Tuchel targeting the transfer of a Chelsea star as his replacement.

The Merseysiders are actively in the market for new midfielders this summer, having let four depart Anfield after the season ended. And with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner all departing, it is easy to forget Liverpool also bid farewell to loan signing Arthur Melo.

Now Klopp wants at least three new midfielders to arrive in their place this summer. However, they do have one deal ticked off having sealed the initial £35m capture of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.

Jurgen Klopp has since been linked with plenty more names as he looks to strengthen his squad.

But his need for new additions could be eased somewhat by the remarkable transformation of Trent Alexander Arnold into a roving midfielder.

The 24-year-old made his name in the game as a creative right-back. However, his defensive credentials often came into question whenever he came up against an elite opponent.

Now a solution to the issue appears to have been found with Alexander-Arnold moving instead into midfield. He showed his capabilities there towards the back end of the season for Liverpool. And, after impressing there for England in their most recent internationals, it seems hard to imagine the player playing right-back ever again.

But in order to put the plan into action permanently, Liverpool will need to land a replacement right-back. To that end, the Reds are being strongly linked with a move to sign Bayern star Pavard.

Bayern want Chelsea star as replacement for Liverpool target Pavard

The 27-year-old France full-back is pushing to leave Bayern as he seeks a fresh career challenge. Having been in Bavaria since 2019, he has won four Bundesliga titles and the DFB-Pokal in 2020.

And it seems Bayern will not stand in his way if they receive an offer of €40m (£34.2m). His deal is due to expire in a year’s time and there appears an acceptance that a parting of ways is likely this summer.

His situation has alerted Liverpool to his signature and it is a signing that appears to tick plenty of boxes.

Before they sanction his sale, however, Bayern Munich are keen to bring in a replacement.

Their first choice target has long been Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, who also finds himself in a similar situation to Pavard. With a year left on his deal, he too is mulling over his future at the Etihad.

However, City’s intention has always been to tie the 76-times capped England star down to a new deal. To that end, they are making a fresh push to extend the 33-year-old’s stay at the Etihad.

As a result, SportsBILD claims Bayern are scouring the market for alternatives. And it seems they have struck upon an answer in the form of Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta.

Bayern boss Tuchel still has a good relationship with the 33-year-old, and the report claims the veteran star would be keen to play under the German again.

Better yet, with a year left on his deal, Azpilicueta ‘would be cheap’. And they report that a bargain fee of just €8m (£6.85m) will reportedly be enough to convince Chelsea to sell.
